Help?

Hello,

Im looking at possibly buying a Freg 1988 1.8 Clipper Convertible. went to look at it today and it looked in pretty good condition. Ive been wanting one for so long and have recently decided to sort it out =)

its done 111,000miles had a new roof fitted and from the information on the website fitted properly. its got a few bits of rust here and there mostly on the rear sils above the body kit which is heavy and pot rivited on engin has recently had some seals changed no visible leaks and was quite tidy. no smoke from the exaust and he is replacing the fan

The chap wants ?1800 whats your thoughts.

My alternative is to buy Gemmagti's very very nice black

so 18 Cab or 1.6 Gti for ?3500

Please Help

Have you any pics mate?

Sounds ok, but be careful of riveted on kits, could lead to bad under-kit rusting.

Have you checked the usual golf bits? Fuel filler neck, fusebox and all the electrics work ok?

looks nice
the roof is looking really new, which means its been replaced recently.
depending on how the roof was b4 it was changed alot of water can get in to the filler neck area and rust it from the outside in, that would be my first and only concern really

heres the buying guide for ya, print it out and take it with you ,
every point you find is a few quid off!

i would aim at payin between 1300/1500

good luck

As cabrolait says, looks like a sound buy to me. (from the outside)

I would deff check for fusebox rot and fuel filler neck too.

Easy to do, Fusebox is passenger side, behind the glovebox (unless they moved it for the mk2 edition, mines a Y reg mk1 and thats where it is)

Fuel filler neck, just reach up under the rear arch an it should be in the top lefthand corner, give it a real grabbing and feel around, if it looks and feels strong, go for it i'd say!

But remember to haggle them abit!

Good Luck!!

Pricie :)

I don't want to make your decision more complicated… but…. the 1.6GTi is a brilliant car, and IMO better than a 1.8 cabriolet. Eeek what have I said? Cabby owners please don't take offence!!!

If I were you and I had that much money to spend, I'd go for the tintop every time. Lighter, quicker, more fun to drive (1.6 .v. 1.8 ), rarer… Just better really

id agree……

however,

i reckon if you spent 1800 on a good cab, youd get one quick mofo

thats great to pull in in the summer!!!!!
