It's because people in this country showing pride in themselves are just branded racists/yobs/BNP

This is all part of a larger debate of national pride and I for one am proud to be English, born and raised. Lived here all my life and don't really want to live anywhere else.

Mind you the way things are going here I may be looking at booking a one way ticket to somewhere sunny.

Land of hope and glory?

If you were involved in a nasty accident while sunning your beer belly in Spain, you'd be described as a Briton! It's almost another word for dead!

As for being proud, we tend to look far too easily at the negative and that's the fault of the media in general. I try an think of the great things that England stands for and then I puff my chest out. Boy that feels good, cough, cough.

Only thing we nationally seem to celebrate is Guy Fawkes night.

Celebrating someones death!

Im all for St Gearge's day celebrations,  but i think it is something the Queen should have made a tradition off celebrating with the country.

I too am of the same opinion, us Brits have been made to feel guilty about showing National pride

Our flag has been used for 1000`s of Great moments, Balaclava, Inkerman, Trafalgar, the Falklands to name a few the British Empire encompassed many nations and made the globe what it is today…………

Yet some Racist lunatic with a Skinhead and a book shop in Eltham used it for extreme reasons and now everyone seems scared to display it for fear of "racism" jibe or label

I am English, NOT British, im not scottish or Irish or Welsh, I may even be partly Roman, scandanavian or even German   as those races have invaded our shores many times through history

Showing National pride and displaying your Nations Flags does not constitute racism, discriminating against others by race is, but our Government are too wet to try and change this, and the only time anyone unites in this country is when a famous footballer dies! (the last one just happened to Irish anyway  )

anyway… Happy St Georges Day, God save the Queen, Rule Britania

Apparantly George is the patron saint of Germany and several other countrys, i dont think he was ever a turkish muslim though :dontknow:

Surely he would be seen as an infidel?

I hope our troops celebrated well in Afghanistan and Eeeeeeraq (said in native tongue  )  by shooting insurgents on Georges behalf

I know this has nothing to do with the st george's day but I know Boris Johnson the blonde haired conservative guy is part turkish

Yanks didn't turn up for the Falklands , so i dont know why waste our tax money on wars to support the Yanks.

Does it matter who else George is Saint of, bottom line he is our saint, it was his day that our country gave him.. The 23rd of April, we use his white flag with Red Cross as the english flag…

all i can say is that, although i dont agree with the way this country is going I am english through and through, st Georges day is also my birthday, (so happy birthday to me for yesterday as well) so I'm double in for it to become a national day
