GX

Hi,

Does anyone know anything about the GX model? Was it the range topper? From when was it available and what options and colours?

Any info would be appreciated!

GX was the run out version for the Mk1 GL 5 door in Spring 1983 until August/September. It was top of the range except the GTi. It's brother was the LX, the run out version of the L.

Spec:

175/70 SR 13 tyres
5J x 13 steel wheels with chrome hub caps
Front fog lamps in grille
Chrome/rubber side strips
GTi style deep front spoiler
Golf GX badge on rear
Rev counter and digital clock
GTi style four spoke wheel with "GX" inscription
Front door pockets
Centre console
Door cards with cloth insert
Sport seats with "Glencheck" cloth trim
Interior adjustable mirrors
Front wiper with intermittent wipe
Tinted windows

1457cc JB engine
4+E gearbox

UK colours: Papyrus Green, Diamond Silver, Atlas Grey

Not too many options I think, only steel sunroof comes to mind, maybe Automatic box too.

I had one in Atlas Grey. GX was a superb model, almost a 5 door GTi.

I did have to  :read:  the name of the green colour with the brochure. Consider myself duly slapped

You could always buy this colour brochure I came across which has the prices when new, colours and all the technical info to keep? Although Dubboy's pretty much told you everything!  :wink:

Ive just bought a green one.! Ive always known they were a high spec but im real impressed at the "luxury" feel of the interior and look of it!

The only problem ive found with it is that it has no pick up! Havent had a chance to check whats wrong  but im guessing its something to do with the vacuum advance and/or float chamber?

Its fine once up to speed but slow down and it takes forever to speed up again.. and also going up the hump brige near my house everyday, it almost comes to a standstill!!!

Anyone had similar problems?

….Nice pics Dubbgirl, hope you sort it out and get it on the road soon! You might as well take some of the other hubcaps… maybe you'l mistakenly include a reflection of your face in them!

i know but i wanted to prove not everything about my car is rusty
