Track day at Snetterton would have to be up there, for me. I learned so much about how my car handles on the limit, and how much faster I could drive it than I could before.

i bought my first mk1 gti when it was on axle stands. put a deposit down and went and bought me some wheels. i went back at the weekend and put the wheels on and drove home. most exhilerating feeling i've behind the wheel. even better than track days and the odd bj.

My best moment is every time I flick the hood down and accelerate onto the big open road from my driveway. I * heart * my Golf.

…I second that….just can't beat driving with the hood down on a warm day (and I used to think my old tintop was good, till my first time in a cabby). After a couple of minutes I apparently ALWAYS say "This is the life!!"

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

1989 Mk1 Clipper 1.8 automatic - Sadly now up for sale - medical issues dictate)

1999 (Nov) Passat S Saloon 1.9 TDI (AFN) - TUG 1 (Remap by CCC ( - **** …..change pants !!) with cruise control

2000 (Mar) Passat Sport Estate 1.9 TDI (ATJ) 5 speed automatic with Tiptronic - TUG 2 (Remap and cruise control by CCC)

For those who have tried 1/4 mile sprint, thing is yes its fun but it doesn't last long, and once you've launched, its not that challenging. Track day is loads more fun - corners, etc

what requirments are there for track days tho does the car need any special items fitting or can you race what you bring?

They hire you a helmet if you don't have one. I think the only requirements are lenses are taped over, and there's nothing loose in the car. When I went, I took a basket with tools, 4x wheels/tyres to swap, spare+jack, and an overnight bag. I dumped this lot in the garage and I was fine.

I've asked a number of times and nobody's ever shown any interest. So I'm just going to do it on my own, or something.

I think if there was a sticky thread about motorsport trackdays ect ect where people could post and ask questions it may help as there isnt really anywhere on the forum that stands out and says track days is there?

i for one wouldnt have known you can pretty much turn up in your own car and race

also if it was a club thing couldnt the club do a track season and take a deposit of the people interested this way if they dont turn up its there look out

im interested
