Golf Mark 1 suggested price

Hi,
I am really interested in a 5 door Y reg Formel E Mk1 I have seen in a garage - It only has 34,000 miles with a full service history and two lady owners (don't they all!) and looks mint - no rust and a cleaner interior than my much newer car.. The trouble is they say they're 'open to offers' although the website gives a guide of ?2,995.

Is this too steep, what is a more realistic estimate of the car's value? I have a slightly doubting wife to win over! :dontknow:

Probably not the person to be answering this one but by the sounds of things it seems like a good one and at the end of the day its worth what you are willing to pay for it so if you like it then go for it  all IMO of course.

Not worth ?2995... Never in a million years... Well - If it lasted a million years, then it would actually be worth more than that, but you know what I mean!

All base models in large light form are only worth about ?1000 max imo.  A truly special car might be worth a bit more.

I'd never pay that much, but then I am tight with the cash (!)

There was a yellow Mini 850 at the Classic Car show - similar vintage, one lady owner from new, low mileage (in the high 20k's I think) and it was open to offers over ?3,000. It had a 'Sold' sign on it, so presume it went for around that much ……….

Cheers,

Mark

How Much!!

Many thanks for all the replies and especially to Dubboy for the information. Spoke to garage today and he doesn't really want to go much lower (a sensible price - but he wouldn't tell me what he thought was sensible!) To put some perspectyive, he's got a D reg Citroen Visa similar miles same condition, always garaged and wants the same - I'll have to hunt somewhere else!!

Dont rush, it will probaly be there for a while, go back and offer him less in a month or so when it doesn't sell. I personally can't see a non GTI golf being that expensive as the market will be enthusiasts only, where as a GTI has a bigger market (and engine)

Hope you find one soon

Stefan, if you go back make sure you print a copy of the price guide and tell him that the MK1 Golf Owners Club said so!

the '82 1600 GTI isn't listed but I guess it would be of the same value as the '81?  :dontknow:

That one's definately overpriced though!

The 1.8 started with Model Year 1982. A late registered 1.6 is the same as the '81 1.6.
