Golf GTI 16S (Oettinger). Where can I get one?

Where can I get one of these bad boys?

I'm moving to America in May(ish) and if I can find a decent one of these I would look into importing one over.

Ok so they're LHD… Great :D

They were available in france. So there must still be some in France. I've tried french Ebay but no joy.

Anyone know where I can get my mk1 loving mitts on one of these beauties?

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

I'm sure I saw a post recently about a 16s head for sale on another forum - I'm almost certain Steve_Matthews posted it up (had a quick search but can't find it).

You could get an ordinary LHD 1.6 and add the head - won't be original but it probably would be cheaper.

Well it's 'orrible and not what you want, but it's the best I could do!  136 PS = faster than a GTI - is this the type you're after?  (If only tintop..)

Thanks for trying mate! :D  :D

I think the cab is orrible, even if it is an Oettinger engine.
It's deffo a tin top I am after.

I think that French Ebay is a GTi with a body kit. Looks quite tidy though. The seats are in good nic! 8)

There was one on eBay last year, I watched it but can't remember what it fetched.

I think you definitely need one, there was an oettinger engined mk1 in Golf + last year, horrible styled car with a union jack on the roof, but the engine looked sweet, those spidery inlet manifolds are top.

Or, you are gonna have to get used to square headlights, ha ha.

The engine is sweet isn?t it? Although for a performance company you would have thought they would have squeezed bigger valves in. Look at all that material between them.

It?s harder than you think looking for a rabbit. Looking on Ebay.com they all seam to be Caddies and Cabbies. If you do find a tin top it?s a 5 door!

I?ve thought about finding a 2 door tin top and doing a 20v t conversion. I would like to loose the side indicator and put a Euro front end on it. But then you have got to live with the gash interior?? unless you strip it out and go for the full race job but then you?ve lost the original feel and road luxuries.

Damn it?s a tough one. If I had had the money I?d just buy a 911 and be done with it. But alas I don?t yet and it?s finding something I love until I do. I was thinking of importing something German like from Germany like a mk1 GTi, or maybe a mk2 rallye / g60, or even an E30 M3???

In all honesty I really don?t know what to buy when I sell my beloved mk1 and it?s the horrid thought of having to put up with an American car with no soul! Woe is me
