g60 in mk1 cabrio success!

ok a while back i posted that i wanted to put a g60 in my mk1 cabrio
i finally got it a couple of weeks ago. i put a 60mm pulley on the g and wow this car is quick.

i used the original tranny which seems to be strong enough, now for some of you that dont know, the tranny from the 1.8 digifiant is an ok tranny.
i guess i forgot to mention, my mk1 is a 93 with an electric top. cool huh

there are only a hand full of these cabrios in germany.

one day when i have a chance i post pics of the project.

Sounds very nice, I have a 1990 Mk1 Cabby but having a hard job finding wiring diagrams for my actual car, what did you use for yours, would be nice to see some pics of your G60 beast.

Rob :o)

PS look at this do you know what it is, older cabs and MK1 don't have it :dontknow:

Hi!

mosh buyed the convertible (stock) from my brother, and we did the conversion in our shop (germany, Bamberg), mosh and me.

The car is a nice 93 mk1, 1,8 95PS Digifant 1, blue with electric top (didnt see this before) and my brothers girlfriend drove it for one year (now she drives a Passat 92 Edition One 1,8T Conversion that i did).

We did a so called quick and dirty job, using parts we had lying around, took us 3 days.

The car has in the moment stock suspension, stock brakes (g60 or even Audi S2 Girling double piston conversion too follow, have some on stock), 9*16" RH rims and stock dashboard.

We used a Opel Corsa Radiator (fits right behind the grille),  a Golf MkIV Intercooler (left over from the Passat 1,8T conv., used a big from the Mercedes Sprinter Van), stock mounts for tranny and engine, the stock gearbox of the convertible (020, cable clutch), a new 210mm clutch disc with a used but good pressure plate, the stock driveshafts and even the stock engine wire harness ot the convertible, because the G60 one we had was rattled… just had to change some things to make the conv one work.

The two extra high beam lights in the grille had to go because of the intercooler and radiator.

As muffler we used a scirocco 16V downpipe, that had to be changed very much because of the shifting linkage being in the way. Wonder why in every forum it is stated that this downpipe is working in the mk1 golfs….
I put the g60 o2 Sensor right where the two pipes go to one.
We cut out the 1. muffler (directly behind the downpipe), went in to the small 16V muffler that is sitting behind the shifter assembly, and went out in front of the left tire.

-> You will hear when mosh is coming….

After driving that thing, the expression "The beauty and the Beast in one car" came to my mind….

Especially as we tested a roundabout 55mm Charger pulley…..

PS: Sorry, i learned english in school, im german, so every fault you may find is yours, you dont have to give it back.

My drive: Golf 3 GTI 92, changed very much, CarP
I did: Passat 35i 2,0 Edition One 92, Navi plus, 1,8T and ABS/EDS conv, lot of gimmicks
and: Golf 1 conv to G60 Quick and dirty
