front speakers

hi, im stumped. The speakers in the doors of my golf driver have had beeter days and im replacing them. However, they dont seem to be standard 4 x 6 speakers. More like 3.75 x 6, so im not sure if they'd fit in the original casing. I dont really want to go ripping/cutting panels to fit some speakers, so can any one help? would modern 4 x 6 speakers fit? Anyone who'd replaced them would be a great help. Thanks!

I've just replaced my front speakers with a set of Kenwoods which were straight replacements. Unfortunately, i got them from a mate as part payment for a car! I believe they are still available though…

Yeah they will be 4x6. www.mcs-direct.co.uk usually has some cheap ones. I picked up some alpines on there for ?25 a couple of years ago. I also have some JBLs that will be fitted to my '83 GTI when its back on the road.
