It's when you want some rows or columns to stay still while you can scroll down the rest.Madferret said
Freeze? not used excel for ages, but I dont remember that….
For instance a massive list of names with column headings across the top. Freee the top row and you can scroll down with the headings still showing.

Rov - Click below and to the right of the column (s) and the row (s). In your example I'd click in B4 and then select freeze panes. This will freeze the column to the right (A) and the rows above 4.

Just reread what I typed and realised I put right rather than left (A)! You got me anyway so no matter!
