Free mot retest ONLY if I have work done with them...?

Hi all. My wife took the micra in for an mot at a halfords autocentre as they do a half price mot.

It's failed on wishbone bushes which I will sit my self but try told the wife that it's only a free re test if she has the work done with them. I thought it was free re test everywhere. Are they full of crap an just trying to con a women who wouldn't know.

i thought it was up to the garage weather they offer free retest, but i might be wrong

i wouldn't take it to a halfords even if they paid me for the pleasure, 1/2 price or not

If you have the work done with them, then its normally a free re test.

If you go away to have work done then most will charge you.

Well i check over the car and new that it was up to scratch. I thought the wishbone bushes were on the way and still think they are fine but nope they say other wise.

That's why we took it there. Cheap mot on a car I know will pass ( should have Passed)

Ive never seen that before. 99% of the time I do my own work and have it re test. Oh well it was half price do I'll do the work and book it in again so I've still only spent the normal cost of an mot.

I have had my car MOT's at most places in my area lol and none of them offer a free retest (most of them are half price within 10 days)

I took mine to a different place for my retest as the place who did mine were booked up, My car then failed on tyres, which they hadn't only a few days before and I hadn't driven it anywhere. They said for that reason they'll offer a free retest as a gesture of good will as it did seem a little shit on me, but usually it's half price retest unless they do the work.

Depends on what it fails on - but the 10 Day partial re-test is dependant on the original garage doing the work. For items like tyres etc - you can take it away and get it re-tested for free if you bring it back before the end of the next working day.

they need to make there money back for the half price deal at the end of the day, i deal with every halfords auto centre in the country and all the kwikfit and ats centres and i wouldn't take my car to any of them, there all told to ''find things wrong'' thats where they make there money ..

The tester buys MOT credits for about 50p each. Aside from the time it takes to do the test, its all profit :wink:

All garages have the potential to swindle you over mot, i take both our mk1's to euther halfords or kwik fit and have had no issues, though a friend of mine is the tester at halfords and the manager is a vag fan

That's why it's always best to take your car to an Mot center/garage your happy with and stick with them. I've built up quite a bit of loyalty over the last 5 years with with my MOT center whereby they will generally be a bit more subjective on minor issues.
