free anti virus software

anyone know a good one that you can download off tinternet?

i've got one on the computer that is driving me mad "smartdefenderPRO"

flashing up every 3 seconds telling me to buy something but i can't get rid of it!!

AVG or Avira i've had no problems with.

am running comodo and thats good

both AVG & AVAST on 1 pc = NO PROBLEMS

I too would suggest AVG however for full protection i would suggest you buy something like trend micro which protects against spyware too.

AVG free version gives the very basic protection.

Used to use AVG free, then moved on to the free version of Avast which was better. Recently been using Microsoft Security Essentials which is working great.

AS mentioned, you need something to protect you against spyware too. Go for AVG (I found it more reliable and less system-intensive than Avast), and then add some anti-spyware. I think AVG actually do a separate, free anti-spyware package that you can download separately.
