engineers report for a '76 MK1-Who deals with classics?

Hello again!

i do keep you lot busy eh?

looking at a '76 1.1 with a g40 conversion,

YET again this car has been a write off!…this time i know it's a cat c and that was in 1998.

this was not disclosed to me by the seller BUT the car seems to reasonably priced so it's not really putting me off this one.

i still want to get it checked by an engineer but i'm having problems finding a firm that will look at older cars…just want to make sure the chasis is straight and that it's not going to fall appart!

any idea's?

thanks,

rick

personally, i would not buy any car from some one who decided to leave that sort of information out. what else could be wrong with the car that you will not be told about?

mk1

this was at g-werks recently its an ex show car which would be ideal for restoration but would require some work

its the same dub76 mk1 lofotun green rare these days so would a good buy even if it does have a blemish in its history lets face it 30years ago it could have been scratched and written off so i dont think it realy makes to much difference although i would get the chassis checked ect

I'm sure the AA and RAC do checks.  Have a look on their websites.

Mk1 GTi White Cab '86

Mk4 TDi

the mainstream guys AA etc dont check cars over 10years old…i've been quoted 250 from a specialist firm…want to pay about half that! :D

If your serious about the car then you'll need to do some research into finding a garage locally (to the car) take it for a test drive on the way to the garage then have a look/ poke about.
As far as I know all the structural rust has been removed so need a lick of paint in places and some tidying up.
I'm sure if you wanted you could sort this with the owner.
In all honesty the fact that its on HPI means nothing, if you think about 10 years ago a bogie green 1.1 '76 golf would have been luckly to be worth a 200 quid so the fact in 98 it could have been written off for a scratch!!
