engine difference ? tintop /cabbie

looking at buying an engine from a 1.8 gti cabbie
is there any differences from the 1.8 gti tin top ??

Later engines have hydraulic head, where earlier ones have mechanical tappets. Can't remember the year split. Later ones also have slight differences on the inlet manifold, because they have more connections for things like idle boost valve, enrichment stuff, etc but the engine is the same. I think the dizzy is different on late engines too, at least it is in Mk2 K-Jet GTI vs Mk1 GTI, whether the cabby used the mk2 dizzy or the mk1, IDK.
