Factory fitted steel tilt and slide sunroof.

Looks like every panel needs replacing or repairing. Interesting to see what it goes for. Maybe worth soemthing if the seats are salvageable.

Gearknob appers to indicate 5 gears (was this an option in 79?). Mind you reverse is on the wrong place, might be a random gear has been stuck on :dontknow:

The ad says its a 5 speeder. It actually looks like a '80 Model Year car with 5-speed box and rear fog light.

Gear knob looks to be out of an Audi, if the pattern is correct.

Just read the blurb, mentions he has an 1800 GTI for sale on ebay as well. If I remember rightly he was trying to sell these as a pair on ebay earlier in the year, must be getting rustier all the time 8O

Yes, it looks in very poor condition. Are series 1 GTIs that rare, that its worth taking on something like this for a full restoration, which could cost maybe ?6000-8000? There's plenty of damaged trim and incorrect parts in that lot too - the wheels stick out as being the wrong 81-83 9 spokes, not the (rarer) flat design. Parcel shelf? Gear knob? Door cards? Missing badges? These are the parts which cost a lot, in decent condition, and if you're not careful then the costs run away with you. I'm afraid I'd have to value that little fella, at ?40, for the wheels. Hope they're not buckled!

It looks like you'd be building a whole new car with this one. Maybe that's why the guys selling the car due to the amount of work and money needed to restore it maybe?
