does a mk2 golf 1.3 engine fit ????

lve got a 1982 mk1 golf and my engines about dead bless it, i was just wondering if i could fit the mk2 engine in ?  

or would it be a massive job ?

Aye, goes straight in. Remember to buy mk2 parts when it comes to engine stuff such as gaskets though - the majority are the same, but some like the rocker cover gasket are different.

start by looking under the bonnet of mk2 golfs  

seriously theres one in the classifieds right now. other donors would be later MK2 Polos, MK3 Polos are all EFI unfortuatly, so ytou would need to wire up some kind of electronic fuel pump to run one on carbs. alternative is to get the injection system working, but if you were going to do that skip the SPI setups as they're a bit pants especially after all the work thats required to get it to work. If you really want fuel injection try to get a polo gt MPI setup instead

edit: oh and 1.4 ABND lump out of a MK3 or  SEAT would drop in, as would 1.4 16v lump from later polos.
