Blimey…didn't think it'd get that high!
Last time I looked it was ?695…it ought to run like a dream for that kind of money! I'm sure the new owner will get their money's worth - and in theory the engine should last 20 odd years if most of it's brand new!?
I agree most of the good ones fetch a lot…my dad got a GTi Campaign in pretty good nick for ?700 (ebay), and your diesel fetched more than that, Bert (if I remember correctly)!

Bert,
I forgot to mention that the Golf I'm driving did the same thing as one of your diesels, about 15 years ago. My dad told me he was driving it up a hill and it sucked the oil through the air filter & ran off it turbo-style like you described! I'll have to get the full story, but he said he just had to gradually slow it down the same as you and it was fine afterwards. It didn't bugger anything up at all as far as I know. Still runs like a dream today and it's never done it since - touch wood! He's had a few mk1 diesels and has only experienced it once too.
P.S - I've put GX seats & door cards in mine now - your new diesel off ebay inspired me! Managed to get the lot for ?20 and they're not even tatty!

Hi diesel dubber, glad you got the GX trim, seats are nice 8) i will post photos when i am finished getting mine ready, there is a modification to stop oil going up breather hose,a plastic oil splash guard inside the rocker cover to stop the crank pressure blowing the stray spots of oil into the air box,Keep your car nice and we may meet one day to compare cars and stuff, mine is the same colour as yours by the way i will keep mine long term as i miss a mk1 diesel,
Max (allana13) is still looking too 8O one day he will get one, wish him well in the searching.
