are you getting an actual cut throat or one that takes half a razor blade.
(i have both but tend to use the latter more as it's simpler)
shave in quiet for the first few weeks till you get at it. it does take practice.
basic tips are
1. warm water on the face first
2. bowl of water to rinse the blade
3. lots and lots of lubrication
4. start on the side of your face pull the skin tight and shave down.
repeat
never put the blade flat against your skin. it will cut.
never put the side of the blade flat against your face. it wont cut hairs but it will cut you.
and clean it fully after ever use and dry the blade.
if your on a proper one then you'll need to sharpen it every time. the first time you sharpen it you will nick the strop. (everyone does)
if you have a local old time barber go in and ask him for advice. he will no dowt not use one anymore but may still have on laying about that he can show you how to sharpen correctly.
and remember that shaving with a striaght stops being something you have to do and becomes an event. enjoy it. take your time and use it like meditation.
oh and dont forget the balm for aftershaving (nivea do a good one)
hope that helps. and welcome to the club.

Apart from that after a few days you'll have no idea they had done anything and decide it's not worth the effort more than once every year or two. You'll enjoy it though for the novelty if nothing else.

Ditto.
Thats why most photos of me im sporting stubble. My problem is that i get bald patches from my cheeks to my ears so it looks stupid.
I dont know if i could trust someone else to shave me. Defo not with a naked blade.

i usualy trim the start of my beard back with the clippers, cos i suffer with acne and shaving with a normal razor is near imposible. so i thought i'd give a naked blade a go!

as well as that i almost fell asleep in the chair. hot towels are just so comfy.
i would definatly recomend this to anyone who hasn't done it before, it cost ?15 but was worth every penny.
even got a face massage in there.
funny thing is that when i went in the guy said that they do those in the basement, i laughed at his funny joke, only for the guy then to lead me down into the basement, i was a little woried to start with but all was good.
i can't believe i had a good pampering this morning. but like i say, you gotta try this, even if it's just once.
