Crashed my Polo GTI on the way home today :(
I saw a poor guy slide off his little scooter coming out of a junction, so I did the right thing and stopped. Another guy stopped and we helped the bloke back on to his feet, and picked up his scooter. He said he was fine and their wasn't hardly any damage to the bike so off I went.
Then on the way home, I was driving normally and it was getting really cold. I went around a bend and the front wheels started to skid towards the outside of the bend. I over corrected, the car went the other way, then over corrected again. Next thing I was pushing the fence back and span around in a hedge!!! And ended up in a field.
The road was icy, nobody else was in envolved. Just skidded on ice. Air bags went off, filled the car with smoke! I thought the car was on fire at first 8O Have a look at some of the pics I managed to snap as it was getting dark.
Heres where it happened. I was travelling in the direction of the yellow arrows. The Red star with the splodge, is where the car skidded and where I hit the fence and the hedge.
This is what it should look like, found this pic on the net, but exactly the same modle.
Front passenger corner is totalled.

Also I arranged to meet the RAC waggon at the car in the morning at 9:00 am. I then get a call saying that were at the car at 9:00pm tonight! and where was I with the keys. Cut along story short, I live 20 miles away from where the car was in the field. And they were collecting tonight because they were advised to collect coz it was a write off.
They drove all the way to my house to collect the keys, so I said "i'll only give you the keys if I can come with you to supervise the car being recovered", so that there was no more damage being done to the car and to remove as many personal belongings as I could. And they replied, "sorry you can't come with us, and it doesn't matter if you give us the keys or not. We've taken it anyway!" And then drove off.
So I still have the keys, even though I said that I didn't want it collected without myself being there, and they have my car in some scrap yard.
Now thats what I call customer service.

back end went, corrected it, then all of a sudden it gripped and I wasn't quick enough to straighten the steering up again, clipped a kerb, into a hedge then over on its side

Heres the photos:
The guy startrd asking me questions about VW's, saying are you in to your VW's then? He then took me round the side and said is this worth anything? There was a 3 door Black MK3 Golf Colour concept. I asked his what wa wrong with it and he said it had been empounded nby the DVLA for not having any tax. He then said that the owner had 10 days to pay then fine or the car was going to be crushed!!! Nothing wrong with the car, lovely black leather recaro interior! I said don't crush it, i'll have the interior out of it. NO can do sorry, i'm not allowed to break it. If the registered owner does not pay it's getting crushed!!!!

On another note, shame about the car. I've been led to understand (though of course might be wrong!) that the energy from a front impact dissipates through the length of the car, and that even low speed traffic light love-taps can warp the pilars/roof so that doors will no longer close properly, so that might be what's guiding their thinking?

You did a proper job though eh! I'm sure she'l forgive you and the main thing is you're OK! So are you going to let her borrow your Golf now that you have left her without a motor???
