claiming off the council

as it says, how hard is this?

reason i ask is because i took my sump off last night on a bump in the road, i have took pictures of what i hit and the damage it caused

will they tell me where to walk as my car is quite low  

couldnt belive it, only had my car back on the road for 3 days!

go and get pics of the hole/bump before they mend it, pics of the damage and  see what they say !

I know of people that have successfully claimed for this sort of thing in the past.  Good luck.  

They're going to argue that:

1. Other cars have passed over the road suffering no damage
2. Nobody had reported it to them before you damaged your car.

That second point is the crucial one. You need to prove their negligence by proving that they knew about it but didn't take action. If they didn't know about it, then they can't be held to blame.

Don't bother claiming it will be unlikely if you even get the price of a tank of fuel, say it happened in a Tesco's car park and you could be in the money. Check camera positions etc.

i know of some one claiming as their suspension has given out,

really harsh speed humps put on their road, result of a few months of driving over them their suspension gave up,

i know thats not the whole story, just from the top of my head, but they seem to be making progress with a claim

A friend of mine has a TVR and has to open the door and push up with his hand so the floor pan does not scrape along the tarmac. Take the council to the cleaners, its about time someone took action against those council idiots.

what is it with the bumps that are centred to the lane you are in :evil: its as if they are trying to get cars that are a bit sporty ( call it lowered if you want)  by doing this. 4 x 4s pass over them at full speed, your average mondeo and vectra fly over them yet I have to slow right to about 5 mph just to make sure I dont rip the front spoiler off :dontknow:

Yeah, speed bumps are a bad way to make traffic slow down, but there's not much you can do about them. I'm going to be lowering my GTI too, I live in a close surrounded by speed bumps and I need to drive over a (lowish) kerb to get onto my drive. So it might end up that I have to wind the coilovers up again, once its lowered.

What happened exactly? Was it in the dark? Or did you just not see the hole in the road?

I cant even get up the speed hump at the end of my street lets hope they dont put one at the other end as well. there is a legal limit for the height of the speed hump but i foret what it is.

Councils are paid for by taxes, we pay taxes.

The idea that I have to pay because you have lowered your car too much for the environment you use it in doesn't exactly thrill me.

I would suggest don't bother.

i know several people who have claimed for damaged wheels, dudley council and wolverhampton council always seem to pay up for a refurb or new rim.

I wouldn't mind so much if my road tax paid for the roadwhat about standard things like a triumph spitfire ( ops: yes I did have one many moons ago  ops: ) that used to catch on the bumps and it was never lowered.
Speed bumps don't work any way, if the spotty little git in a festa whats to drive like a t**t then this never stops 'em and what about ambulances you fancy going for a ride over some speed bumps after having an accident and needing to get to the hospital quick :dontknow:
