Chips!

Following my extensive Bean research for the Beans on Toast with Cheese, taste test.. I though I would explore not only different brands of oven chip.. But also the best way to eat them.. I have just had McCain crinkle oven chips with helmans and was so impressed, that I wonder if this can be beaten?.. I think regular old tomato sauce has had its day and made way for the Reggae reggae sauce and such like.. But I wanna know the absolute best way to eat oven chips.. So that not a single one is wasted by tasting average.. So come on.. Your help is required for me to carry out my research!..
Thanks.. Walt.. :D

oven chips are pants, you cannot beat fresh potatoes peeled and chipped by hand, cooked in lard until nice and crispy and drowned in vinegar with daddies brown sauce as the dip of choice, just like my dear departed nan used to do them :D

My 80 yr old mums home made crinkle cut chips cooked in an old chip pan thats older than me ( 40 ) in lard thats prob older than me are the bomb just with loads of salt.

Oven chips are best with salt and HP brown sauce with lots of grated cheese on top until it melts  :D

I know what I am having for my dinner tonight now as the wife is away to Take That concert.

Seeing as my misses wont have a chip pan in the house oven chips are the only option.

Aunt bessies chips are nice.

They got to be crispie but not so they go dry.

I cant have tomato sauce, it has to be hellmans mayonaise :-)

Ok, I think we all know that real chips cooked in an old fashioned, dangerous style chip pan taste the best.. However, what I am trying to achieve is the ultimate safe chip, cooked in the oven with the absolute best seasoning / sauce.. I know there will be subtle differences with regards to salt and or vinegar etc etc, but which oven chip and which condument will come out on top?.. Are certain mixtures more butty friendly than others, if so how and why?..

well in your biosed quest to discover the best chip and how best to eat them i think (in my opinion) that you should have been more specific in what you were trying to achieve lol

so stick an oven chip into each nostril (with photgraphic proof) as an appology :D

i think you also need to discover if it makes a difference if the oven is electric or gas powered :D

McCain chips are nice but need to be cooked so they are crispy on out side but soft inside with some grated cheese on top and a side dip of mayo and tomatoe sauce (not mixed)

Marky 4.. I am going to try your chips and cheese, with selection of conduments for dinner today.. Please note this is a chips based meal and in no way do I expect it to be competetive against chips with steak and peppercorn sauce, mushrooms and onion rings with tomato sauce..  :)

Should the cheese be added at the end and served immediately, or allowed to melt / brown?  :dontknow:

Please can you be specific so that I can be true to your recipe..
