cheap coilovers ?43 with delivery from america
money is an object at the moment

does anybody know if these coilovers will fit or how easy it is to adapt these to fit a mk1 1992 gti cabrio.
they say they fit all golf and jetta gti from 1985 to 2000 but say they dont THINK theyll fit a 92 mk1 cabrio.
heres the link

i need new shocks on the rear anyway(?12ish from gsf) so if needed i could get none standard.
i know they say you get what you pay for but i want something cheap to put me on, and im not racing her.
thanks for any feed back

The main issue is that your standard shocks won't drop that much before they just bottom out.

Not used these before but I guess a budget solution using existing shocks.

Wow don't go there you use these with the adjuster at the top to adjust the ride height . On our roads it will be a terrible ride . Credit crunch and all that , please save for some decent items .

thanks for your input, i also managed to contact somebody whod bought a set on ebay (through the sellers feedback) and asked him what he thought of them
this was his reply
"personally i wish a hadent bought them lol they were a pig 2 get 2 fit right didnt really go as low as i thought …about 1cm above the tyre ..i would expect coilovers 2 go lower really ..still make a clunking on the rear aswell …wish i had just bought shocks and springs ..hope ive helped :) very hard ride"

so looks like ill be saving up
janspeed keep advertising a set on ebay for about ?240 with postage, does anybody know if there any good or have any suggestions.

Janspeed are the same as hottuning,

search mk1 coilovers, then offer them ?150 and save yourself some wedge

American Golf 1985 onwards are Mk2.  The Mk1 was the Rabbit over there.

They did do the Mk1 Cabby over there as there is one in Shallow Hal but I suspect those coilies won't go on it.

Sorry but ?43 including delivery from America?  Doesn't the phrase "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" feature here.

You'd be better off spending your money on non-adjustable lowering springs from Euro Parts.  40mm items will pair up fine with standard dampers.

i want to put spacers on the car to widen the stance, if i put 20mm each side rear and 10mm each side front will it catch if i lower it 40mm
thanks

Might occasionally scrub on the back with rear passengers in over speed bumps.  Should get away with it alright though.  What wheels are you running?  Standard 14's?

its got 15" bbs ,185x55 tyres, its the sportline model an i think they are as standard,
its nearly sat on the floor at the back end at the moment, think the shocks might have gone but not sure if the previous owner as messed with it. the front end is high.
i was thinking of getting adjustables so that i could mess with the height.
but i think standard shocks might be better quality than a cheap set of coilovers?

Mk1's on tired shocks always seem to droop over the rear arches, no idea why.

Fit a reasonable fixed height lowering kit and the car will be transformed.

A 40mm drop on 185x55x15 should cause no issues.

I have dropped mine 55-60mm and I have my stock 15" le castelletes and i dont have any scrubbing!! them USA coilovers look rate dodgy! lol They would go no wear near my car, I have seen episode of 'Police camera action' and them american aint really experts on suspention some of the cars handle like small dingys

thanks steve
so all in all
it'll cause no real problems if i use 40mm lowered springs with standard shocks front and back even with 20mm spacers on the back and 10mm spacers on front
or could i go wider on the front

any idea what the measurement should be from the centre of the wheel to the underside of the arch when standard
does it looklike its been lowered at the front already
