Charity donation or idea for Gaydon

Folks,

I'm toying with the idea of getting our club to make some worthy donation or fund raising idea for a charity. Something like a sponsored dub push, or similar. Something we could do at Gaydon for example.

I recall an episode a couple of years back where a Subaru Impreza club took kids with cerebral palsy for a drive. Made a big impression on them, and for some, it was a lifetimes ambition fulfilled.

No idea if we would be wanted for anything like that, but if you do have any ideas, please feel free to post them up, along with any worthy charities, local or regional you think appropriate!

things you could go would be trying to go for a world record? Whats the longest line of cars ever attempted nose to tail? would look good from a helo…

 

I thought about maybe a bring and buy sale at Gaydon? If we all brought (donated) a part or maybe even parts that were not too important to us, that might be worth something to another member, then we could sell them at a reasonable (fair) price and maybe split the profits with a charity and put the rest in the pot for the camping trip or such like!
But either way…We all need parts and I can't help feeling all the parts we all will ever need are out there tucked away in someone elses garage!

You know how Clarkson does the race from one place in a car to another while the other guys do it on public transport etc?…… Why not challenge him to go right round the world in mk1's! There must be a pretty direct route going from one owner to another somehow? Doing however many miles in each car? Be a good way of getting the club on Top Gear  too!

how about some sort of gumball rally of mk1s around various points in the uk ie instead of monaco do brighton or blackpool , and rename it the golfball rally    , get sponsored and give all to an agreed charity or something like that . it would be fun aswell as worthwhile and maybe stop at a track for a raz round . slowest lap donates 50 quid to the charity  :dontknow:

How about a show and shine/concours competition with a small entry fee and all the entry fees are added up and donated to the charity chosen by the winner of the show and shine?

Thats no good! Gonna cost me ?50 straight off! Wouldn't want a stone chip or get her covered in flies now would I? 8O

How about a different calendar for next year? We could do one re enacting all the famous calendar photographs of the past…..You know, Dubgrrrrl walking across a tennis court sctatching her arse with a tennis ball, Dubboy in a black and white shot, sideways on, top off, cradling a baby! Daisy stood in an oily workshop twisting sideways to face the camera with his body rippling and a huge tyre in each hand! Jennybugs naked in the kitchen hidden by various fruits and cooking utensils (Like those other old dears in that film!) And maybe baby Kins and lowmk1 dressed up as cute little bumble bee's? What do you think?   We could sell it everywhere to raise money…..Maybe even get on Top Gear too?

On a more serious note thats a good idea , best DIY restoration , best daily runner , best original etc etc………..

i understand ur point about the stonechips and flies it was a silly idea but i think i would end up losing the 50 quid as i have no engine  ops:

Not necessarily - I have no rear axle, electrics or fuel system…..at least you can push yours and it would roll.

What about if we bought a nice shell, and maybe everybody brought a part along, and during the weekend, we could rebuild a whole mk1 and sell it on ebay and all the profit goes to charity?

Obviously we would need a good shell and some equipment, but if everybody brought a couple of bits they had lying around then maybe we could build a car?

That's a bit fraught with problems, because I can bet you there will be 1 or 2 (or more like 120!) parts which will be missing, but needed to complete the build.

Another idea could be that someone takes a complete (maybe tatty) Golf apart in preparation, then brings all the bits, then we all muck in and put it together and drive it around, at Gaydon. It would have to be 'staged' slightly, otherwise it would end in tears I guess. No doubt someone has a Golf which is more/less complete, but in bits, who wouldn't mind it 'restored' for them?

I've got a couple of front grills  

i have a near side door mirror.  

How about something along the lines of the old peugeot 206 advert where they hammer an A35 into the shape of a 206.  Get something like a mk3 escort or similar Size/shape to the mk1 and with lights grill etc and BIG hammers make it look like a mk1?  Could be fun and get a unique car so sell for charity

Hows about we repair DjEv's car and auction that? Should get at least 50p…..He does a lot of work for charidee mait! Parkman turner overdrive…Lets rock!  

i have a mk5 escort we can all beat up with big hammers . im trying to kill it but it wont die   . everyone pay a pound a hit and donate it all to charity , i dont think a ford is worthy of a vw badge . and there is probably more rust on a ford than a mk1   . kill 2 birds with 1 stone to . another ford off the road and raise money for charity  :clap:
