Car Show Snobbery

Hi all

Planning on attending my first ever VW show at Elsecar on Sunday and with the weather reports looking good for next weekend it makes sense to take the cabby for a run. The thing is I've never been to one of these before and my car is nowhere near show standard so I'm not sure what sort of reaction I'll get!! Is there a level of snobbery at these events and will I be laughed at for turning up in a car which is not what you'd call A1 standard?

I'm sure I'm thinking about it too much and the VW community are just pleased to see another cabby on the road, and there will be, or have been cars turn up in far worse condition than mine.

What you think?

To be honest any "scene" events tend to be snobby in my opinion - not that of the club.  Anything more focused or actively seeking all marks of VAG models; the mk1 tends to be well received.  The AGM - BugJam - GTI fest etc were all good for me when I attended in the mk1…. can't say the same for anything that is more focused on newer "how much cash" you got events   .

i agree with the above, my cabby is nice condition and not perfect by any means but what counts is that you love it and you enjoy it, stuff what anyone else thinks. im hoping to get to the elsecar meet on sunday too so hopefully ill get to meet a few of the folks on here,
Remember a car on the road is worth 2 in the garage

I've only been to one show in the VW, but I had a blast.  Everyone in the club were so friendly, and this rubbed off on the adjacent stands who seemed to appreciate our plucky bunch of half-finished projects (and the odd minter of course).  I did sens a little bit of snobbery from some of the extreme car clubs but nothing untoward, they just weren't really interested.

As for condition, anything goes I think!  I rocked up in my cabby with the spacesaver on the front and a missing fuel cap ( <—– see pic on the left).  Was all received on good jest.

Have fun!

Thanks for the replies and you've put my mind to rest, looking forward to it now.

Reevo-There's a post in the national meet forum with all the info, it's about the 3rd or 4th post down.

its always a good idea this time of year to have a look in the national and regional meets section of the site you could be surprised at what could be happening near you :D

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

This topic was really interesting - I am so proud of my car I want to go everywhere in it, ok it's currently wearing bright pink seat covers while I wait for the upholsterer to fix a rip, one of my dogs comes in it, I love it and I'd love to tell everyone about it at a show but am too scared unless it's organised by the MK1 guys!!

Weather permitting I will be at Elsecar on Sunday.

I've been to hundreds of car shows over the years but I'm a VW show virgin so looking forward to it.

Wouldn't worry about it, worst will prob be shows like 'Players'.  But tbh no one really cares.

Aircooled shows Are more chilled out vibe in general though :D
