I presume that you mean ABT, the German tuning company, who do tuning & styling work like this on Volkswagens, but I've never seen any Mk1 ABT cars - anyone else have any info for Dean?

The ABT Mk1 had reg KE-Y-28. It had the following based on the 1588 GTi:-

Max power: 130 PS at 6000 rpm
Max torque: 16 mkp at 5000 rpm
Induction: K-Jet
Audi 80 GT cylinder head with modified cam from Abt/Hof and 38 mm inlet valves
Gillet exhaust
5-speed gearbox fitted
Bilstein front shocks specified by Abt with 30 mm lowered springs front and rear
5.5" ATS cups fitted with 195/50 Pirelli P7s
Front Kamei spoiler
Raid 36 cm steering wheel

Performance
0-60 km/h: 3.4 s
0-100 km/h: 7.6 s
0-140 km/h: 14.4 s
0-180 km/h: 32.1 s
50-60 km/h: 3.8 s (in 4th)
50-100 km/h: 14.9 s (in 4th)
50-140 km/h: 27.8 s (in 4th)
Economy: 10.7 l / 100 km

The car was black and fitted with gold "ABT GOLF" stickers on the side and a gold rabbit on the bonnet.

Abt did 3 engine conversions for the Mk1
110 PS / 1.6 (based on the 1.6 carb 75 PS) for 4884 DM
125 PS / 1.7 (based on the 1.6 GTi) for 2950 DM
130 PS / 1.7 (based on the 1.6 GTi but using high octane petrol) for 2950 DM

I have pics but no scanner.

Cheers
Rajan

Nice load of stats thjere dubboy  8) . Sounds similar spec to the Richard Lloyd Racing GTIs, which had a bored out 1600 engine.

1981 1600 GTI (coming to a road near you soon…)

I've driven on overbored 1.6 GTI, not exactly sure what the final cc was but it was upto 1.7litre anyway.  It was running oversized Hepolite racing pistons and had a freshly rebuilt big end.  The head was kattled on it - exhaust smoke poring out where the manifold attached - there was a modified head with it but it was in the boot.  Anyway - this thing was running 5 degrees advance on a knackered standard head and cam and it was an absolute flying machine!!  Can't imagine what it would be like with the head fettled and a high lift cam in!
