Buying risks- No V5

Just wondering how risky it is buying a mk1 without a V5 and if anyone has run into problems?

Dont know how the seller can prove they were the registered keeper?

Can the DVLA refuse to issue a V5?

Cheers for any advice guys

If a seller is missing the V5 you would be advised to do a hpi check,or alternatively wait until a new V5 arrives before closing the deal.Around 3 to 4 weeks.

Of course you`d have to stump up ?25 for a new V5 if you went ahead with the purchase without one.

Yeh you can obtain a replacement, not too bothered about the cost for that, just if theres a problem and it gets refused or something, dont know if that has happened to anyone? :dontknow:
Dont have time for them to get the V5 or i would, i'd prefer it that way to be honest.

I'm wary of buying a car with a lack of documentation. The one im looking at apparently needs a new fuel pump, not sure if its a bit risky to be honest, if i have problems with getting it running.   :?

Cheers

Haha this is amusing i'm not really from Newcastle, im just at uni here, i'm from teesside so essentialy a boro supporter lol which is worse?!
Managed to get some free tickets 15 mins before kick off for the sunderland newcastle derby the other week was quite entertaining.

Cheers for that mate. Im not really after a cabby though, really want a tintop. Theres a cabby round the corner from me for sale, its 1 out of 2 mk ones ive seen all winter lol

Reason why i cant get him to get the V5 before purchase is because its on fleabay..

Been looking for a car in the north east for ages, not alot round here though!
Not looking to spend alot on the car, want one that needs a bit of work, not too much though!

when you apply for the logbook to a car.
you either fill in a form, with loads of info and they charge you ???
or
if you have the green slip send that off too and you don't need to pay.

then they send the current person (on the logbook) a letter saying that  someone has asked for the logbook to that car. they then have 14 days to object to giving you the logbook.

if they do nothing, then dvla will send you the logbook. if they do dispute, you will need proof that you have brought that car.

think this is still the same process.

i'll keep an eye out for any for sale up this way. might be worth checking out durhamdubs.co.uk and section-5.net to see if theres anything for sale on there both are local clubs.

you at northumbria or newcastle? just theres a lad at northumbria with a green 2.ol 8v one pretty tasty……

I'd say 50% chance of it being dodgy then. The mechanics of applying for a V5 if its not present, are adequately illustrated above. If you really want the car, email the seller before and say "If I win it, can you apply for the V5 and I'll wait until I see it, before I hand any money over". if he declines….walk away.

I personally would only buy a car without a V5 if it were reflected in the price, as in priced for parts only.

Worst case scenario you can't get a V5 or there is some other problem meaning you can't drive the car on the road so all you could do is break it for parts. :dontknow:

Or worse still it's stolen and is taken away by the police who have a few stern words with you. :dontknow:

Yradave says relax.

Yeh i agree i wasn't planning on parting with alot of money for it, just in relation to the risk.. so itd have to be cheap!

Paul_c- Thats a good idea, not got too much to loose then, think il say that, think its fair enough really.

Could get complicated otherwise..   :?

Are there any other potential obsticles to watch out for that could prevent from getting it on the road other than V5 and the obvious- MOT etc?

I'm at Northumbria mate, and i have seen that car but not since the summer last year, been keeping an eye out for it every day haha its sweet  :D

Cheers for the advice guys
