Bring on the price war!

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20100519/tuk-asda-announces-petrol-price-cut-6323e80.html

I filled my tank to full at Asda this morning! It was 117.9p per litre, I've done my sums and I could've saved 84p if I'd waited till tomorrow.

Ha ha, bet you're gutted aren't you

They're cheeky Ba$tards anyway, they need to drop it a lot more than that the robbing fu**ers…

Anyway, asda petrol's crap, they can drop it 10p a litre and I still wouldn't buy it from them..

Whinge over…

dont get me wrong no-one is in buisness to make a loss. But the forecourt operators make very little proffit from each litre of fuel.
Now asda may be differant because they are buying in such large qantaties but even so if a normal forecourt makes 1 or 2 pence per litre they cant be making a mint from running these. more an attraction to get people to call in.

Its the large petrol companies and the tax man that are in control of the real forecourt price. :)

Interesting thread...I agree, the big cats determine the price we pay. Arguably BP are the largest in the industry and it would have the largest impact on the price we all simply chose to bite the bullet and pay that little extra at your local forecourt, instead of filling up at BP or Esso! ( whatever they brand themselves as now) In reaction to dramatic loss in sales, they would be forced to lower the price of fuel!

The price of fuel has been hitting my wallet pretty hard recently, I used to use super unleaded without fail but it's just not viable. I was running a Corrado and the Golf until last week, £50+ each to fill the tanks and a each tank only lasts me about 4 days. I've had to sell the Corrado because of the fuel prices.  :banghead:

Asda Fuel doesn't seem too bad though, haven't noticed any loss in power/flat spots etc. Plus it's 5p/litre cheaper than my local BP! and pay at the pump means I don't have to que in a shop for 10 minutes waiting for school run mums to pay for their shopping!

I think we need a mass convoy of Mk1's doing 10mph down the M1 like the truckers did in 2000!    8)

The vast majority of the price of fuel is duty and VAT - I'm a bit of a calcs & stats geek, so let's see if this little collection of figures is enough to make your blood boil

I do 30,000 miles a year.

I average 30mpg

I therefore use 1,000 gallons of fuel.

1 gallon of fuel costs £5.77 (I have to use V-Power)

I therefore spend £5,770 a year on fuel.

£2.58 per gallon is payable in fuel duty AND £0.86 per gallon in VAT

So, for every gallon I buy, the government takes £3.44, an effective taxation rate of almost 60%

Out of the £5,770 I spend, the government is taking £3,440

It gets worse….

I have to earn £9,779 in order to go home with £5,770 to spend on fuel.

So - out of every £9,779 that I earn AND spend on fuel, the government takes the following:

*£3,912 in income tax
*£98 in national insurance
*£2,580 in fuel duty
*£860 in VAT

A total tax/duty haul of £7,450

I'm fortunate to have a job (well two actually) that means I can afford it, but it grieves me to think how much more cash I'd have if it wasn't for tax. I'd happily spend ten grand a year on various insurances if it meant I didn't have to pay tax of any sort.

Wont be long before BP ramp up the price of fuel to pay for THIER oil spillage in the Mexican gulf.

They cause the environmental disaster, and we pay for it!!!
