MK1 Golf GTI 1.8 91 Cab

Morning all,
The title says it all really.
Problem no. 1
I have successfully removed the protective basket that sits over the fan (blower) in the engine bay sitting just under the windscreen, and have freed the blower unit, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the actual unit out from the car, and therefore put the replacement unit back in.
Apart from being a narrow space, the mechanics/motor for the windscreen wipers are in the way, as well as the housing for the wiper motor, which appears to be welded on!

Problem no. 2
The nice man in Halfrauds sold me a Haynes manual (1081) Golf & Jetta Mar 1984 to Feb 1992 as he said oh yes sir this is the one you want. But it refers to a Mk II Golf. I have looked on eBay and found this manual which covers the Golf, Jetta & Scirocco Mk 1 models upto 1982 including convertible with 1.5 & 1.6 petrol engines including fuel injection. Does not cover Caddy or diesel (book no. 726) once again though it doesn't cover 91 models, plus mine is 1.8! Is this the correct Haynes manual, I don't think so, can anyone tell me which one I need please!
Any help or advice regarding both probs would be much appreciated. Cheers.

You could remove the wiper linkage to give you some room, its only 5 bolts :thumbs:Pry off little plastic domed nut covers from the base of the wiper arms.

Undo the 2 13mm nuts holding the wiper arms to the wiper spindles.

Pull off plastic nut covers located underneath the wiper arms.

Undo the 2 22(iirc)mm nuts holding the wiper spindles to the scuttle panel.

Then undo 10mm(iirc) nut holding the wiper motor and linkage to the bracket within the rain tray.

Pull off wiring connector to the wiper motor and the whole lot comes downwards. :)

Nice one!

The Haynes are funny about mk1s, there's a brown one for small engine'd mk1s and a red one for big engine mk1s.  The big engine'd mk1 Haynes manual will cover your cabrio for all the important stuff, in fact I can't see there being much it doesn't cover.

I have both red and brown manuals, I'll check which one is best for you when I get home as I do recall one of them saying "Does not cover convertible, caddy, etc"
