Bikes Who are u????????

Hi,
Iv recently been putting some major thought into gettin my bike test done for some weekend fun. I am wondering who on this forum has a bike test done and what bikes they ride?
I do like the thought of a Ducc Monster 600cc.

Random i know but just out of interest.

It's a Honda VFR 800 (pre v-tec)

I nearly bought a Monster but found it to be rather small!

I ride when I can - had a bad off around 2 years ago and still getting my confidence back.

The last time I sat on a monster it just felt small and low - I think the latest generaton monster is alot bigger - best bet is to get down to a dealer and just see what feels right!

Passed my bike test ten years ago, did it over 5 days. I ride bikes at work BMW 1200 and have a fazer s2 600cc but going to change it this year for tigar 1050cc. all I would say is get yourself honda hornet or yamaha fazer good all round bike for first timer. My first bike was a honda hornet got knocked off it within first three months of riding. once you pass your test go and do bike safe with the police a good day out,you get feed and given some good advice.

passed test 6 years ago brought a gsxr 600 srad in corona race colours which lasted a month i needed speed

then a yammy R1 w plate had it all polished and brought all the bling

part chopped that for a 12 month old R1 on an 04 plate still got this one but binned it on a track day wasn't too bad just cosmetic got all new plastics for it

brought a zx9r for the track but it was an old one and carbed didn't like the power delivery so sold it

few months back brought a gsxr 750 k3 for the track much better 600cc weight with 1000cc power (near enough) great bike

when i first passed i rode it all the time no matter what the weather but now total fair weather rider  8O

go to the isle on man TT every year but thats all i did last year and ain't going this year lost a few mates now so brought a mk1 cabby instead for the weekends, still going to do track days but i think thats it for me now

I passed mine about 4 years ago through a direct access course, which opens the sweet shop door straight away  8)

I think what jacob says about additional training is a good idea for pretty much anyone who takes the above route - which is slightly hypercritical of me as I didn't bother  :redfaced:  Much gets published about how dangerous bikes are and I do think that it's very biased, bikes aren't dangerous, it's the squidgy organic bit twisting the throttle which is the danderous bit - it's all road sense.

I ride a 'tweaked' and pretty cheeky cbr 600 rr which is a very light and short wheel based bike which isn't really that comfy for long commutes, but is great for a quick blat

They do say once you've owned a Ducati you'll never go back  :dontknow:

Good luck with your test! trust me you'll love it once you've passed mate

Passed my test couple of years ago now,no regrets whatsoever.  Bought an '97 bandit 1200 as didn't want to spend too much in case I binned it.  Said i'd keep it 2 yrs and its time is just about up, fancy a GSX1400 next, mainly use mine for commuting as I work in Leeds and it takes half the time in rush hour.

do it do it do it do it do it

…. its the bet feeling in the world, no fast car can come near the feeling of being on a bike (IMO), the wind in your hair (battering round your helmet!) the feeling like every person is out to kill you when they poke thire car out from side roads! and the "Sh*t its raining again" feeling you get when your miles from home!

…that all said, it is great fun and I really do recomend it, its got harder and harder to do, but its still worth it!

the 14 is an ausom bike, get it and you wont be disapointed!!!

…likewaise to everyine else here it seems, I did the direct access corce, its befare the best way as you don't have any time to forget things betweeen lessions, and its over and done with in a week!

..I maysuggest havign an extra couple of lessions ontop of the std corse as it just fills the week up nicely and gives you alittle more time on the bike before the test, but then I did my licence a good 4 years ago now, before it all changed, my borther is just goign through it now though.. forget how hes doing uit, I should ask!

Thanks for all the posts guys the good and the bad. some good info here and i have thought long and hard and have booked the CBT after that im goin to go for it get a bike. iv been wanting one since i was 17 when my mum said they were too dangerous and i couldnt have one whilst staying with her and my dad,
i moved out into my own house at 19 nearly 20 and thought of it again but as im sure you all know there was a lot more to pay for in a house than you bank on so finance for a bike went to the back burner.
at 23 i joined the merchant navy and as i was only in the country for a max 3 months a year i sold the house and made a bit profit before the collapse of the market :D first time i was lucky i think.
Moved back in with parents and bought daft cars like rs turbos and scoobys but now a couple of my mates have bikes and i have tried to get the test done but every time its booked i get word im off to sea. :banghead:
Nows the time i think better to get it done and let the enjoyment begin.

As for the police extra training does that cost? :dontknow:

Thanks Hobo

You'll not regret it mate I can promise you that much

Re the additional courses, just do a search for 'advanced motorcycle courses' and find a good one near you - prices vary but as long as they're police or similar trained it'll be fine, some of these even help your insurance premium (which can help in the first year or so) If you then get a craving for speed I would recommend either the californian superbike school or the Ron Haslam one (both of which are track based) as they'll improve your riding no end - aint that cheap though but worth every penny IMO

Last thing I'd recommend is spend as much as you can on safety gear, especially the lid!!, trust me if you come off/get knocked off you'll thank yourself for it!

Have fun and Good luck with your test mate… keep us all posted!

I Passed my test about 5 months ago and it is a bit of a pain in the arse but well worth when its all done.

My first bike is a Ninja ZX6r and to be honest that is more than quick enough for a first bike.

A work friend has a duc monster 900 and to be honest its nothing compared to a 999 or the likes lol.

First prize for the understatement of the year award!

Nice bike, not sure i'd like one for my first bike though - I find the front end to be a little scittish when you've got a decent move on

Fair play to ya!!

It's good to see how everyone on this thread is saying essentially the same thing  8)

I had a ZX6r as a first bike too - was a handfull and a half!!

Best bike I had in my early days was a Suzuki SV650 - really easy to ride and very forgiving :)

past my test 6 years back, used a cb500 direct access course, the bike was piss easy to ride unlike the first sport bike i got fzr 750 1988 model, two year later got a xr650 2003 pxd that after a month or two (dont like being that high on road)i now got a 2000 model r1 aint looked back since.
all i will say about them courses is dont bother

UNLIKE A CAR IF YOU THINK !! YOU NEED TO SLOW DOWN ON A BIKE DO IT ANY WAY,,,cos it only takes a fraction of a second to speed up again

Hi guys no test news yet but been looking all day at bikes and prices sort of liking the look of sports tourers for a bike.
One that takes my fancy is Kawasaki ZZR 600. Has anyone had any experiance of these? Would be interested to hear how they ride and reliability etc. for the price id be looking at a max of about 1500 for the bike bearing in mind that some of the info you have given makes me not want to spend too much on a bike for a first. as for the 600cc i think that gives probably too much power but used sensibly   could be used for a couple of yrs easily and the frame size would be good too i think. the 400cc bikes seem to be pretty small.

Let me know what u guys think :dontknow:

Cheers Again Hobo
