Big Up Volkswagen Owners!!!!!! :)

I love the way owning a vw, has a certain club feel to it.

I have always flashed an waved when i've seen a well modded or clean vw

Managed to snap my clutch cable tonight coming up to a roundabout, couldnt belive it, something breaks every week!

So managed to coast it round the roundabout and park on a flat pavement off the road. NO money, NO credit and my battery on my phone was flat…and i didnt have a coat, it was freezing :?

So was sat in the car for about 30 minuites freezing my go-nads off woundering how im gonna get the car home…noticed a sweet left hooker mk2 go round the roadabout   yes!!! i thought to myself…then it drove off….

minuite later it came back round and pulled up  :o  :D

Speeking to the guy and he's well into his mk1s, having owend a few in the past..tried to fix the problem enough to get me home with it being to dark and cable seriously nakerd it wasnt going to happen…So offerd to tow me home, and luckly enough i had one in the boot

couldnt belive my luck, would of been stranded there all night….

You'd never get that if you owned a vauxhall, citreon, ford etc etc

what a top bloke, big up the VW Massive!!!!

Nice to hear you were rescued off of the roadside. If I saw a broken down Mk1 Golf, I'd always make the effort to stop. Dunno about if I saw a Mk2, tho….

Does this mean you're still gonna make it to Preston Brook? A clutch cable is an easy thing to replace, I think.

nice to see that people are out there who are willing to stop and help, I would deff stop to help out other mk1s but like paul_c dont know about the other mk's - maybe a nice mk2 which looked as if it were a club car? even though I own a mk3 I can't see any other mk3 owner willing to stop.
I think the older the car the more of an enthusiast you are

I always stop when I see 'old' cars borken down (early scorts, mk1 golfs etc), you never know all they may need is that 2L bottle of water in the boot. 8)

I would stop for a fellow VW driver in distress! Even if I was driving my MK2

I had to rescue one of my colleagues a while back because he got 4 punctures on the motorway and the AA will only tow you 10 miles if its not a mechanical fault that stops you

my clutch cable went a few weeks ago on an appraoach to a roundabout, sat with hazzards on bonnet up , loads of people passing, saxo gimps gave it usual shouts of abuse( tossers quite hard as they drive away! ) taxi driver nearly ran into me only had 1 mile clear view ahead. only offer of help was from an old lady in people carrier, thought about it but felt to guilty to ask her to push. ended up temp fix with jubilee clip . perhaps we should develop the mk5 headlights and when we break down shine into sky for help batman stylee ........

  Nothing as exciting as that. Drove over some debris from an overturned caravan. Not sure if he's the type for police chases these days!

That's ok then. 1 less caravan on the roads can only be a good thing. 999,999 to go, then…..(joking!)

You know you can drive a car without the clutch…… Just in case it happens  again:
To pull away select 1st (engine off) start car (jerks about alot but will go)
to change up a gear dont over rev it just keep things nice and smooth lift off throttle and change gear, if tough use alittle revs - NOT LOADS

to change down, slow down as much as possible with out stalling, knock it out of gear then using a little revs hold the gear stick towards the next gear down trying to change into that gear use the revs to help it glide in (i.e 4 to 3 goes in around 1300/1400 rpm)
Practice makes perfect and you will crunch it a few times to start with, helps if you start with a car you don't care about - company cars a great for this

I helped one of my neighbours on friday with a jump start, she came round this morning with a box of choc's! result! I'll give em to the missus later…  8)

Best save i've had was when i slid my mini into a ditch (lovely country bends, 3rd gear…), stuck at 45 degrees, back in the day so no phone, thinking what the hell am I going to do? A few passing motorists point and laugh, seeing a bewildered 17 yearold standing next to a mini in a ditch. About 5 mins later, along comes my savior in the form of a Tow Truck (you could hear my heart lift) , an aussy bloke gets out and proclaims in his thick accent "No worries mate, my bro rallys minis back in Oz, we'll have you up and running in no time!!" What a stroke of luck! He pulled me out, hammered a track rod straight-ish and set me on my way  :D  Ever since then i try and help standed motorists, if only to pay back the karma…..

hope i never see any of you….

Low your story is quality! VW owners are simply the coolest people on the road. Big up the VW massive indeed. 8)

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

I agree the older the car the more help you get. One morning my bonnet flew up at 60mph on the way to work, but I could see through the slats to pull safely into the lay-by nearby without bricking it! Then of course the bloody thing had bent the hinges and stuck up over the wiper arms so I couldn't get it down - it was totally jammed! A nice chap in his work van pulled across to help - he had a spanner to get the wiper arm off and then tied the bonnet down round the bumper with some rope he had in the van! (Bit of a mess, but the bonnet catch that failed is sorted now!)
He said he'd just done up a mk1 Gti, and even offered to give me a wiper motor if my wipers played up afterwards! Jolly nice chap willing to be late for work to help me out. I keep a tool box in the boot now…
I'd definitely stop for someone who's obviously in need - even if all you can offer is a lift to the nearest phone box! I towed a broken down Vectra the other week, aren't I nice!
