before and after photos of my cabby
thought I would put up some pics. My cabby from about 6 months ago, and how it looks now….
it now has a new roof, partly resprayed (what i could afford), and hours of elbow grease removing all that mould…
got a few questions now but think i will put them in separate threads…

It will be retrofit, the big bumpers didn't come along until '88. You can also see its an earlier car because it has the chrome windscreen surround
My '89 Cab has a chrome window surround!
Robster - good work on sorting your Cab out.

i was told by dvla most private plates are * (prefix) then two numbers between 1 and 25 (mainly even) and then three letters thats the majourity of private plates so going by that its probably a original b reg right?
My Cabby has a private plate, 'A' reg long winded but 'er in doors bought it for me. Thing is you can't make a car look younger than it really is so my J reg now looks ancient. :dontknow:

retrofit
CHeers for all the feedback on me car!
The car has its original plates, so yes it must be a retrofit, which i didnt know myself until reading all the comments! makes sense though…
some work still needs doing, electrics are not great… its enough to pass the MOT but if i put the high beams on the speedo cuts out.. :?
and two weeks ago it happily slowed down to 20 mph and wouldnt go any faster… didnt stall, just spluttered like crazy. Changing the spark plugs seemed to have sorted this…. hopefully.
but yes, cleaning it properly took ages! It had been sitting under a tree for two years when I got it, and had been home to a family of squirrels…

The electrics issue could be due to a weak earth(s), or corrosion behind the fusebox of the main power feed wires (they'll be big red ones).
The spluttering, sounds like dirt in the fuel - a common issue with Mk1s. Turning it off and on again often fixes this (whichever piece of dirt is pressed up against the filter or fuel feed line, drops back and the flow starts again). So its possible that the new plugs are a red herring. If your plugs were dirty/worn you'd see a much more gradual drop off of performance, probably starting with a misfire under full load or at high speeds.
Good news is you have an MoT, so you can enjoy driving it, while sorting out all the little niggles, etc - which is what owning a Mk1 is all about!!!

and yes, lots of little things to do, but it is running happily (most of the time!) so the bits to do are what will keep me busy over the next few months!
thanks
