The Golf is MY CAR! I do have a Volvo S60 2.0T with all the creature comforts though and that's for work and moving the family around. I get in the Cabby as often as I can though as it's the only car I actually LOVE driving, I did about 4,000 miles last year. The wife moves the boys around in a Corsa.

I hope to one day make my mk1 my daily but after 10+ months of ownership I've only driven it 4 times for a total of 20miles  meantime I'm stuck driving the heap as my daily.

i use my sportline most days at some point to be honest, i love driving it, other than that or when a really long journeys on the cards or if im showing with the vr60c lads and lassies i take the VR6 its my "main" car and my cabby is my point and squirt mobil for hacking around, it gets driven (hard sometimes!) but garaged, cleaned, polished and generally very well looked after serviced and maintained meticulously with genuine parts were possible, as does the VR6, i am hopeing to get an Aubergine coloured Edition 1 G60 at some point in the not too distant future too  so it will be a struggle to choose which one to take out!!! :dontknow:

I do about 10k a year in my daily driver tintop.
No reason an old engine shouldn't be reliable if it's in reasonable condition and you don't ignore problems….always amazes me that some folk expect their car to keep running, but never bother to service it or deal with strange noises when they occur!!!
Oil and filter changes, plugs and cambelts etc mustn't be neglected! Also keep an eye on hoses for perishing -some people change them all as a precaution, but I've never done that…
Only thing mine doesn't like is heavy wind and rain when parked facing into the wind overnight - seems to get blown into the electrics and causes temporary damp problems, but fairly easily cured so far!
