Anyone seen this before?

Someone I work with has given me this photo so I can try and find out if this was a standard VW design.
The picture is of a Golf cabriolet. I would post more info but this is all I have to go on.

yeah looks like the plastic protection fitted to the clipper kit to prevent scratfhing th paint
