That's Chris Santos' site. He's on here as VW-ONE occasionally. He's got a campaign and a very early V-reg GTI as I recall. Nice fella, was at the Gaydon meet.

Lots of info on the site - particularly interesting is the info on his Campaign resto - I think thats new since I last saw the site as it lists completion as "Dec '04".

Interesting that he went for a remanufactured VEGE engine, a genuine DX by the looks of things. I'd be interested to know how much this cost him…..

I found the Uk site and a full replacement engine is a fiver short of a grand  8O. Even the short blocks are over 600 quid.

If you find a worthwhile website you can add it to the site yourself now using the 'Web Links' tool in the 'Community' Panel.

I appreciate your comments. The Vege engine was costly, but well worth it. Sounds fab!  8)

Chris - you are a lucky man to have probably both of the best examples of the GTi  8)

If you don't mind me asking did it take a lot of work to get VEGE to provide you with the correct DX spec engine for your Campaign? Their site only list "generic" 1.8 injection engines for watercooled VW's. I'm guessing in most cases they would supply you with a later hydraulic head unit by default…….

The Vege DX unit in my Campaign is a complete replica of the UK spec VW DX (1983 Mk1 GTI) engine from the period. As such, it does not have the hydraulic head.

The garage concerned with the restoration dealt with all the specification requirements. Vege required my Campaign's chassis code and original engine number etc.

I know the engine was shipped from Vege's main factory in Holland and took about 10 days to arrive.

Here's a picture of the engine prior to install.
