against the grain

i'm thinkin of a engine swap for my1.6 gti but i think i may go for somethin other than vag. does anyone know if its alot of hassle for a 2L 16v vauxhall lump or a twin cam fiat. or is this gonna be more hassle than its worth after having to consider all the implications- mounts gearbox etc
cheers

I remember that I saw a mk1 into which someone had fitted the 2L 16v Astra GTE lump, i think it was in CCC magazine or something similar.

That vauxhall lump ends up in all sorts of cars, as it's such a strong engine. It's even been known to make it into a few minis  8O

Ford Zetec on carbs is becoming popular for swops .

I would stick with a VW plant , plenty to choose from and been done before so help always available .

the vauxhall lump is great and cheap and easy to tune . u could run gsxr throttle bodies and  megasquirt management and get yourself a cheapish 200bhp . as for fitting it in to a mk1  :dontknow: . i know it fits in fords 100e 105e and mk1 and 2 escorts easy but never seen it in a vw. i say go for it, would be a monster if it worked  :P

Why not I say, Worth a poke  :D  8). VW don't really make the best engines anyway.

the XE is an awesome engine, I've heard good things about the Thema turbo lump as well… 8)

I've always wondered about putting a flat four in a Mk1 - even a naturally aspirated 2.0l from a Subaru ought to be stonkingly quick, plus the low centre of gravity should make it handle even better…

Maybe if I have the room and the cash  :)
