Advice for newbie

Hi- I'm new here, and fairly new to the mk1 thing.

I'm currently looking for a mk1 GTI (preferably a 1600). I've looked at a few, ranging quite widely in condition and price. Just after a bit of advice really about how much I should expect to pay for an excellent standard one.

Cheers.

How long is a piece of string?!?

Most people selling excellent condition Mk1's know exactly what they have and normally, the price reflects that. Every now and again, you see the odd bargain however.

For "Excellent" condition, it should be mint and be 100% original and would expect it to be priced Between ?2k and ?3k. Probably not actually worth the top end of that bracket though…

i would have to disagree with almk1 there.

i recently bought a mint mk1 for ?3.5k and really do think it is worth that, if not more.

this guide has been posted a number of times before, hope it helps…

a nice mk1 driver can be bought for around a grand with the gti probably 800pound-ish more. what i say is if you like the car and its a good one go for it, the joy of driving it will outweigh any price you will pay.

have a read through some older posts in other sections and you will pic up on what to look out for!!!!!

The price of MK1 and 2s are dropping quickly for some reason, could be to do with the cost of running the cars especially with fuel prices rocketing. Have you noticed that Ebay has had a lot of MK1 selling for silly money? It's certainly a buyers market at the moment and could be for sometime as the price of a barrel of oil is expected to rise.

I still cant get over how a campaign is ?1K over a std GTI on that….

You just have to laugh really.
