Both are beautiful in their own rights and it depends on the individual.
Although I try to remain unbiassed, I have to say cabby's are a bit girly hairdresser, my wife had one, and she IS a hairdresser.
Having said that I do like both but preffer tin top.

Looking at prices, the average price of a cabby is slightly more than a tintop. Therefore the cabby is (by the rules of supply and demand) more desirable. But, even the best cabbys would struggle to achieve high prices, like ?3000-4000. There are a small number of hatchbacks out there which are immaculate, and a percentage of people seeking these. They don't come up for sale too often, so therefore they are in high demand.

Also, the tintop is available in a much wider variety of engine sizes and lower trim levels, and with 5 doors if needs be. So a young person, for example, might seek a 1.1/1.3 non-GTI for insurance reasons.

Cabby! be a real man. they are generally in sounder condition than tintops as they have only seen summers (most anyway)

Personal choice really (if your gonna get a cabby get it mid winter - it'll be half price!)
