1986 VW Golf question

Hi Guys I just bought a Golf GL. I am new to this golf thing so I got a few questions.

1. How can I tell the engine size?
2. 1986 makes my golf a MK2 but it looks like a Mk1 what is that about?
3. The gearbox has the 1-4 then E is that a hint to the year?

Check the logbook, the engine size will be on there.
If it looks like a mk1 and its an 86, im guessing its a cabriolet!

Or a SA import. What's the chassis number (first part, not last 6 digits), that will tell us exactly what you have. Or a pic….
