1.6 diesel - project

Hi all i'm new to this forum.  Have just bought a MK 1 1.6 diesel on Ebay, have not collected it and bought it blind in as far as i don't know whats wrong with it !  It does drive so hopefully ive got lucky.  Interested to know if any members have restored any 1.6 diesels or have any info on them, I know there not as popular as the GTI's but its still a MK 1 and looks great.

Ye i restored a 1.6D but then put a mk3 turbo diesel engine into it  :twisted:  well quick now.

Hi Bert, no it was not the 1p one, i saw that too, it was the one in newbury paying ?132 for it, can't get hold of the bloke to go and colect it at the moment though

yep I've got one, which I run as my daily driver, though similar to bert I've dumped the old n/a diesel for a turbo diesel lump, but mines a 1.6 from a mk2 GTD.

I can thoroughly recommend this website: http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/  its american but there are a few of us brits on there, including me and bert, and the wealth of diesel knowledge on there is great.

Great looking car !  what would be a guide as to the cost of putting in a  mark 3 turbo engine, i am not a mechanic and would not be doing it myself

i got a 1.6 diesel too was going to swap for a powerfull petrol engine but bert convinved me to stay diesel

Glad another diesel has joined the club! I've had two standard 1.6 diesels as daily drivers, currently have one to run on original engine (2 lady owners from new and low milage so runs mint), the other my dad is putting in a Vento TD engine when time and space allow. I'll be putting photos and details up on the progress of the swap - will be a total DIY job. Bert's your man for questions!  :wink: The TD recipient …
