'GTI Engineering' GTI!

Got an original GTI engineering lump in it. How rare/valuable are these nowadays, anyone got one or driven one? Just been reading some old GTI Engineering reviews, they rave about them - 0-100 in 21.9 secs  8) .

Cheers

Don't really know the spec of that engine, but at 21.6 to 100 is impressive.

Just been looking at some books and on a test of an 1800 standard mk1 they give it 26.6 to the ton.

I have an RE 1900 bottom and in my mk1, from gti engineering as you will know. It is very good, didn't even know its history when I fitted it.

Done 5000miles and its great  :)

I got that from a 1981 Motor magazine review of tuned Mk1 GTIs. Think they are referring to the same engine - 1800 RLR (which is a bored out 1600 with uprated internals) supposed to deliver 140 bhp  :D . Lists the standard 1600 5 speed as 27.5 sec to 100 which fits in with your 26.6 for the standard VW 1800.

Would like to tune mine up a bit, but its a 1600 and doesn't seem to much mods around for these nowadays. Have driven a number of standard 1800s - nice and torquey, but just not revy enough for my tastes.

Cheers
