So, who do you use in Kent?

I'm hoping to track down a Mk1 friendly specialist with garage, bodyshop and general servicing capabilities.

I have a couple on my list to investigate

Victoria Volkswagen - Broadstairs - Looks friendly an encouraging on its website - http://www.victoriavolkswagen.co.uk/

GMS - Maidstone - hearty recommendation from some folks on the Mk4/5 Forum - http://www.gmskentltd.co.uk./

Any of you Kentish types have any other recommendations?

Cheers,

Drew.

We use:
Volksline (226 Broad Oak Rd) in Canterbury (01227 767958)  for anything mechanical that I don't want to touch. No body shop though. Very good and reasonable pricing. Website not working)

VW / Audi Vehicle Workshop in Sandwich http://www.vehicle-workshop.co.uk) are visited regularly for genuine parts (e.g. 2 immaculate hood covers for ?30 each)

Blackman Motors, Heartsay Garage, Headcorn Road, Biddenden, Ashford
Kent  Phone 01580 291146  have been very helpful. http://www.blackmanmotors.co.uk

Eric Petts in Folkestone (01303 251242) for electrical probs.

Body wise we are about to check out a place in Hawkinge - the one that resprayed the GTI has gone awol.

Drew I think Ian (onelazygit) has had a fair bit of engine / gearbox work done on his Campaign. Sadly he can't drive it at the mo, but I think he mentioned a gearbox specialist (Helicoil) based in Brockley in SE London - very close to the A2.

I may well be checking them out shortly as my box is now starting to get a bit reluctant going into 1st when stationary

I'm still after recommendations for a reasonable priced machine / engine shop that will recondition heads and do crack testing etc. Also any other gearbox specialists would be appreciated in the Kent  / SE London area.

CGTI folks mentioned a place near DArtfordfor the engine work, but they seem quite busy and I haven't had a chance to get down there yet

They are good arn't they?? They were responsible for the major parts of the mechanical rebuild of my Gti, and now we won't use anyone else. (I am VERY fussy when it comes to having work done and paying for it).
They don't charge an arm and a leg, and we get good discount too (should do with the amount we have spent there !!!).
Got to the stage where whenever I walk in - even just for a chat - Ian asks 'What have you broken this time ?'.
MOT tomorrow !!!!

Say hello from me … and a big thanks!

I was looking around Canterbury Cathedral when he rang me back to say the mk1 had passed its MOT. Perhaps there was a bit of heavenly intervention there!  :notworthy: I was really surprised when it passed first time!

Cheers,

Drew.
