Recommendations for trustworthy specialist near St Albans?

Good evening friendly forum members.

Posting on behalf of my brother as he may not have the opportunity to get online toniaght and it may be an urgent matter!

His mk1 has an intermittent top end tappety noise. it gets louder and louder and then abruptly calms again, as if there is an intermittent oil supply problem. Although i am no expert!

As in the title really, he would be very appreciative if anyone could offer their recommendations for someone he can trust to advise him on the matter and possibly carry out any necedsary work, within a reasonable distance of St Albans.

There's always SCC Performance in St Albans if you don't get to funkstar.

used Rob and the team for my Focus RS over the years and they've been spot on.

There was place on the A414 near London Colney long about - a yellow garage, that I used when I lived down there. VW and Audi specialists. 

try 'mac testing' down near the station end of st. albans, the owner used to own a few mk1's, still loves them. He is the only 3rd party that i trust with my vw's..

Try Mark Tempest in Welwyn Garden City. Good guy and knows his stuff!
