pls pls pls help !!high!!revving car!!

:dontknow: help i cant figure out whats wrong with my cabby its a 18 gti and when i start it up its high revving and wont die down to idle iv not had the car long and realy want to keep it can any1 pleeeeeeeeeease help me any suggestions? thanks

there is loads of things it could be but ill start with the basics. first off look around the inlet manifold for any vaccum pipes that may have fallen off or split. check that the throttle cable isnt getting stuck and that the throttle linkage is returning to its stop. where are you? i would be happy to take a look if you are local.

I had a similar problem, you need to rev it slightly and listen out for any whistling. My leak was on the inlet boot in one of the folds so really had to spot. If you've tried to adjust the idle via the screw or on the throttle cable be careful you readjust it withe the screw and try and put the throttle cable back how you found it
