Mk1 Specialist Garage - London Area

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to know if you could direct me to a reliable specialist garage within the London Area (and Greater London) that can undertake some work on my newly purchased MK1 Golf Cab (G Reg) Auto.

The kinda work I need undertaking is (although not limited to):

Full Service and MOT
Cam Belt Check and Possible Replacement
Dull Brakes/Disks/Pads/Fluid/ and possible servo and master cylinder replacement (although I'm not expert - matey-matey advised this!).


And some cosmetics:

Central Locking
Install Auto Hood
Install oil/volt meter/pressure dials
Fit new Hood Tension Cables
New Dash Light as I cant see the Green on very well!

Any ideas/recommendations and suggestions would be warmly welcomed.

Most of then stuff listed can be done by either yourself or any half decent garage. The only thing I would be concerned about getting a specialist for is the electric hood. I'm not even sure it's worth doing as it's expensive. Things like dash lights can be done yourself too as can the hood tensioner, there's a guide on here for that.

Buy a Haynes Manual or a Bentley one and read up. I'm far from being mechanically expert but lot's of things are worth a try.

hey Tian, thanks for the reply… although I would prefer to do this myself as suggested, unfortunately I don?t have the space or tools (or knowledge in the first instance) to begin this - hence my previous enquiry, it would be easier for me to pay a professional for the convenience, warranty and guarantee.

Although I'll try and find a local garage/mechanic you can?t be too careful as they may try and rip u off with such an old car. But I guess I have no choice and will attempt to find a local reputable one, since lack of response from this post indicates that no specialists exist.

No worries,it is difficult and I myself have tried to find a specialist in London and failed!

I do go to a guy I've been using for a few years now for most of the work I can't do myself and if you want I can give you his number. I use him because he works on a mates Merc that's about 40 yrs old so if he's good enough for that he's good enough for my Golf. He's based in NW London so if that's local enough for you let me know and I'll PM his details.
