London Mk1 mechanic sought

(Edit - the missus is logged in here it seems, it's her motor!!   - message me under the user account 'plurker' for replies)

So I've got a 1.5 GX, she had a full engine rebuild 2 year ago, on 63k miles :)

Had a prob with rough-running for a while, I posted up onto here a few months back and got pretty much uniform advice that it was rust in the fuel tank causing it.  Prob is when you depress accelerator quickly she nearly stalls, then runs okay, but stalls going up hill.

I've given her a full service, checked timing, scraped the tank with magnets, nothing of note came out, taken off Weber carb and cleaned that, removed in-tank filter and replaced inline fuel filters and it's still shagged  :banghead:

I've not got the time to do anything else myself due to work commitments, so am looking for either advice on where to take her where they won't just say (as I had at the last place) "it's an old car it won't ever run properly", or someone local who can come along an take a look at her here, of course I'm offering money here.

I'm in Streatham, South-West London, there's a garage nextdoor to mine who lets me use his place and tools at weekends - got pretty much everything bar ramps or a pit….

any help appreciated, or I'm gonna have to let her go
cheers

hey where abouts in streatham are you and what garage is next door to you?

if you need any parts then go to nicholls motor spares on mitcham lane. a good garage would be xtreem motors on eardley road.

thanks AMR, I'mnear Nicholls :)  The garage next to me is a little independent, he's had a good look but is none the wiser.

do Xtreem know their Mk1's then?  Wary of taking her to a regular garage, I'd prefer someone who knows these cars y'see…

well i can certainly recommend xtreem. of all the garages i deliver to around the area, i'd say xtreem are one of the best. so who's the guy behind your house?

Sounds like an air leak to me, check all vacuum pipes etc. Also be wary of posting specific details, of where you/your car live, on the internet!

@ Gav, don;t worry, I'm being unspecific :)  As it's a non-runner with 2 flat tyres and no interior she ain't going anywhere, that's for sure!!

wooders, very kind, but my work won't allow me to take any time off for the next week or so - I work with Thames Festival, London's biggest outdoor event, which is this weekend!

If you're still in the area next weekend, 18th/19th, though I'd be more than grateful for any help!!
