heartbroke!! help anyone??

just took the golf for its MOT and its failed on a few points, these being…

VT30
001 - horn does not function
002 - Offside front position lamp(s) not in good working order - bulb out i think that translates roughly as??
003 - Offside rear brake pipe excessively corroded
004 - Nearside rear tread depth below requirements of law
005 - Offside rear wheel bearing has excessive play
006 - offside front suspension joint has excessive play in a lower suspension ball joint
007 - Nearside (track rod end) steering locking device missing
008 - Nearside rear tyre fouling part of the vehicle
009 - front (down pipe) exhaust system has a major leak of exhaust gases

VT32 - advisory
010 - Nearside front brake pipe slightly corroded
011 - Offside front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated
012 - Nearside (rack end) steering system has slight free play detected at steering wheel.


….bugger in a word! anyone got a rough estimate for any costs of any of the above??

number 8 i've been quoted ?150 for from dubshack in cov as the arches have been cut back, not rolled. is it worth taking an angle grinder to the lip thats sticking out??

and can anyone recommend a VW specialist in the northwest whos good…but preferably cheap!!

Doesn't sound too bad - some of those things would have been easy to sort prior to Mot.

Biggest issue is the arch rubbing - how bad is it?  Very bad - change rims/tyres, very minor - may get away with modiing arches

there is a good vw specialist near me called Walkden VW centre on the A6 in Little Hulton near Bolton (5 mins from M61 junc 4)

Did you find someone in the end? Or did tomo help you out? I can probably sort out most of those things, I am assuming its rubbing the arches because its lowered and/or wider wheels, not because the rear beam is bent?

as been said some of the problems could be sorted quite cheaply….

The rear arch problem….. if they`ve been modified and their fouling  your tyre, could it be the rear bushes are worn and the arm is moving excessively… or the shocker and / or it`s spring has weakened…?

l have a contact in the borders who breaks vw golfs if your stuck for bits let me know.

Cheif86 if foxy is offering his services I suggest you jump in your car and make your way over there ASAP as he says he may not be a garage but his workmanship is fantastic, he is an enthusiast who loves his mk1s his knowledge may be very anorak (knowing the measurements of gaps between P slots is a bit Too much  :roll: ) but he will let you inspect any of his previous work all of which is a credit to his love of the cars
