which fuel pump
does anybody know which fuel pump i need, i have a mk1 gti cabrio with the 1.8 8v k-jetronic dx engine. ive just taken mine off and tested it as the fuse kept blowing, and the pumps had it.
the thing that confuses me is that its a mk1 but a 92(cabrio).
have just been on the gsf website ( Car Parts & Spares -- Buy Online with Fast UK Delivery | GSF Car Parts ) to order one but am stuck.
im not sure if it as the right pump on already as it has never run properly over 3000 revs (in load) since i bought it,ive googled the numbers on it and they dont exist, and the sound absorber is round not square as the manual shows,
any suggestions would be helpful
thanks for any help

think i found the part i need but its not quite right.
i spent half the night on the net and found this american site ( http://www.aboveallmotorwerks.com/ ) which helped me find this oem number 171 906 091A , i found a matching part on ebay for ?23.50 so i ordered it and it came this morning and looks more like it and sounds great when powered up compared to the old one.
the new ones black and a lot bigger, so the sound muffler wont fit
i have a new problem now,
the connections are different
do you know if theres a fitting i can buy for this
i couldnt beleive it when i got the pump for 23 quid cos my mate who's a parts manager said it'd cost over ?200
good result if i can get the connections for it

You will need a standard GTI fuel pump case [soft rubber cover] and of course need to adapt the wiring connectors [easy] . As for the ends being different they do unscrew and are interchangeable except one may have a non return valve you could go to any good pipe / hydraulic factors and they should be able to help you find the right end if they don't fit . Threads are standard metric items !
Looking at your new pump is does have a non return valve [white bit in the end] . This can be drilled out .

The long skinny one is from an Audi 80 1988 ish , i had one on my MK1 20VT conversion . Now replaced with one similar to your new item listed as for an Audi 2.2 circa 1990 ish . Another Ebay bargain .

the pump works fine but i had to snap off the plastic bits and tap the metal pins, to make it fit my connectors.
i told him that the pump had the wrong connections and he offered a refund, so if you contact him hell probably be able to sort you out.
i also bought a new foam muffler as i didnt have one to fit, direct from vw for about ?10
hope this helps
