Which fuel filter??? (SOLVED)

Hello. I have a 1981 1.6 GTI and have just been to get a fuel filter from the main dealer. The part no I have been given is 251 201 551 G. It looks like this

I always thought it was the cylindrical metal thing in the engine bay. Does this filter fit somewhere else (near the petrol tank perhaps) or have I got the wrong part? :dontknow:

This is the in-line fuel filter which goes on the fuel line hose on the way to your carb.

How much did you pay at the Main Stealer for it?

Paid ?1.77+VAT… Don't have any carbs… Got a GTI!  8O

like you say, it's the larger metal filter that bolts on top of the air filter housing/fuel metering unit

That's what I thought… Just wandered if there was an inline filter somewhere else that I didn't know about!

Can anyone confirm the part no I want is 431 133 511 D?

dont know the part number but if its an 1800gti it should look like this

431 133 511 altho i think it is now 831 133 511 i got one from VAG ?7- Monday! :mrgreen:

Alex -  German, Swedish & French do these also ?8.25 + VAT I think its the same on a 1.6 or 1.8 GTI
