Where to put the fuel pump?

Greetings

I'm ridin an '83 golf mk1 with a 2.l 8v conversion and am havin a bit of an issue with the fuel pump. I've tried 2 different fuel pumps and a funny noise persists, it sounds like the ball bearings of the pump are shot or something. I've come to believe the problem is with the placement of the pump, to the rear of the driver's side of the car. Possibly the pump having to push the fuel to the injectors is putting greater strain on the pump, whereas having the pump under the hood would draw the petrol less strenuously.

what i can do to stop this? :banghead:

pump is designed to push not pull the fuel so you need it close to the tank.

where are you taking the pickup for the fuel from? sender or direct from tank. if its via a port on the sender then you will need a lift pump from a cabby or a gti tank (port on driver side bottom) also the void is where you should mount the pump (between floor pan and rear beam, then accumilator mounts between wheel well and rear beam on driver side.

what fuel pump is it? if its an oem mk1 pump you'll need to either fit a mk1 gti tank with the outlet on the bottom and internal swilr pot, or a later mk1 cab/rocco/g40 shape polo lifter pump and fuel reservoir.

the oem pumps will die quickly without the above as they just arnt designed to work without a constant supply of fuel
