you could always try the filler cap. i now mine breaths though that. when it was rather cold my cap froze which stoped my car running. i warmed that up and it was fine.

How about rotor arm....if you have one with the rev limiter on it GET RID....they cause all sorts of probs....

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

1989 Mk1 Clipper 1.8 automatic - Sadly now up for sale - medical issues dictate)

1999 (Nov) Passat S Saloon 1.9 TDI (AFN) - TUG 1 (Remap by CCC ( - **** …..change pants !!) with cruise control

do that! first thing i do with a new mk1.

it's not actualy freezing, it's where the fuel is too cold. the fuel needs heat to gas. connect the heater pipes all back up and see what happens.

hey ive changed the dissy and the rotor arm and guest what its done the job!!!

THE BAD NEWS IS:

but doing all of this makes it run like a bag of arse!! untill it warms up! then it runs as sweet as dream!!
GGGGrrrrrrr!!!!

its A 1600 WITH a carb!! dont think that the auto choke could be playing up now!!

if so does any body no the lay out of the vaccum pipes on the back of the carb and how the auto choke works!!!

get rid of auto choke add a manual choke conversion much better

auto choke works from the water temperature.

first flush the water system. then check that the auto choke is clean. then check the vacuum system has no leaks.

also check that the preheater (if it has one) is working.
