WHAT EXHAUST HAVE I GOT!!!?

How's this for weird,i own a 1986 1.6 carb cabriolet mk1,and my backbox has split and the tail pipe has dropped off,so naturally i managed to find the original vw part number ( mine is non genuine ) and got one through ats exhausts,as vw quote was expensive, the exhaust backbox i received is totally different to the one on the car,but all the details are correct ie:part number matches up to book in ats,car reg, engine number etc,the manager at ats said it's possible that this car could have started life as a 1.8 and was given a 1.6 engine as there could have been a shortage in 1.6 cars, has anyone ever heard of this or could anyone shed some light on what exhaust i have :banghead: cheers.

ps:The car's backbox looks like it's a complete joined system right up until it meets the downpipe, there is a front silencer just after the downpipe.

you trust exhaust centers to be honest and fair??????

it's possible the exhaust that was on there was not original
it's possible the ats exhaust is not original equipment
it's possible the 'manager' will tell you/sell you anything to get your money

i'd be surprised if ats were cheap. gsf are very good for exhausts. how much do they want at ats? is it just the backbox or whole system you are replacing? how different is the box?

The exhaust on my car is non genuine but it fits perfectly and definately looks right, when i went to get the backbox fitted the guy said the one they ordered based on the car's details is different to the one on the car,and they reckon the one on my car looks more like the 1.8 gti exhaust listed in there book!! now i am confused!!!!!

the 1.6 carb box is different to the gti box. the 1.6gti is different to the 1.8gti box.
